GOALS

My goals are to promote health awareness and access, education, and family resources through culturally competent measures, research-based practices, and community empowerment. My main area of focus is maternal and child health, including communicable diseases and mental health.

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; proficiency in SAS statistical computing package, Microsoft Word, and Excel. I have in depth knowledge of epidemiological research design and research practice. I hold substantial knowledge of prenatal, postnatal, and childhood development as well the health issues pertaining to early stages of life for both children and their mothers. I have worked mostly in communities facing adversity and understand the health concerns and societal burdens that threaten these communities. I have sufficient knowledge, and practice, of educational theories, special education and evaluation, curriculum design, and administrative functions.

WORK EXPERIENCE

2011 January-May | San Francisco, California: San Francisco Family Developmental Center Intern.

I trained under the Child Development Specialist and learned to assess and evaluate children ages zero-to-three for special needs. I also helped compile information for students’ Individualized Family Service Plans and gathered referral material for children with special needs. I collaborated with nurses, physical/occupational therapists, and speech therapists to discern the best services for the children and their health, as well as performed office and administrative tasks.

2010 Sept-2011 May | San Francisco, CA: AmeriCorps - Jumpstart Corps Member

I provided activities that promote socio-emotional development and kindergarten readiness for children. I also collaborated with team members to create optimal learning environments for young children, through the understanding of children’s interests and developmental needs. Our work was performed in neighborhoods characterized by low socioeconomic status and established youth risk factors.

I provided educationally/developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction for children ages zero-to-six. I also acted as an administrative assistant to the director and performed enrollment processing duties, parent conferences, and child developmental counsel for parents.
